Petition Letter

Petition Letter: To whom it may concern,

My name is Margann Tobin and my student number is 05587432. I was a student at Queen's during the 2006-2007 academic year.

I am planning a return to studies in September 2023 after a seventeen-year absence. When I was accepted to Queen's in 2006, it was a late acceptance, only two months before I started classes. I did not have ample time to consider what courses to take or my academic plan, especially since I did not think that I would be accepted.

After I started my studies, I began suffering from depression, as well as burnout. I had gone to school for fifteen years without a break. I also felt that I was not as prepared for what university courses would bring despite taking university preparation courses in high school.

I am hoping to have the courses I have listed completely expunged and/or annulled from my transcript, especially since I was only graded in one of them. I am essentially wanting to start over from scratch with the only course I passed be an extra, if possible, so as not to be detrimental to my grade point average.

Unfortunately, the professors of those courses that I had back in 2006-2007 are no longer at the university. One main reason why I am also asking this is because the degree plan I am hoping to pursue this time is completely different.

I understand that this may not be possible but, if I do not try, I will never know.

If you could send any correspondence to my personal email, I would appreciate it.

Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,

Margann Tobin

Academic Plan

Academic Plan: As mentioned, I am hoping to have all but one of my previous courses expunged and/or annulled from my transcript. I essentially want to start over again, with the only course on my transcript being the only one I passed.

In the years since I have been away from Queen's, I have been on antidepressants, and they have truly helped me cope with my depression. I feel that my depression was not as conducive to me leaving Queen's as my burnout but it surely was a partial reason.

Right now, I am confident in what degree plan I wish to pursue, and the courses that I would like to take in order to do so. I am hoping to do a medial joint honours in Classical Studies (without CLST100) and History, with a minor in World Language Studies. The only thing currently holding me back from enrollment is my outstanding debts, which my mother told me that she would help me pay back this summer. I am looking forward to returning and working toward the degree I have wanted since I was a little girl.
