Petition Letter: Hello,
I am requesting to drop a class for extenuating circumstances. During the first few weeks I was maintaining a steady pace of learning the material in CISC 203, however, within the following weeks, I happened to come across some serious financial issues, as well as mental problems. It became hard to focus on my school work and I began falling behind in 1-2 classes, mostly CISC 203. I do not believe I am able to catch up since the material can be challenging. My struggle with studying began when I noticed I was running low on money. This led to me becoming anxious and depressed about my future as well as what I will do for the rest of the term. I ended up speaking to a counsellor as well as the doctor that I see every month at Student Wellness, Dr. Weiss. Both the counsellor and Dr. Weiss recommended some great tips and gave me some amazing resources. For example, Dr. Weiss has signed me up for Swipe it Forward which has given me a limited amount of swipes to use at the dining halls. Not only have they helped me with dealing with my problems, but I myself realized that there was something that had to change. After the visits with Student Wellness I began focusing on my school work and telling myself that everything was going to be okay. This helped me stay caught up in my classes, though I do not believe I would be able to catch up in CISC 203. I also was initially planning on dropping it before the deadline however I became very unaware of the deadlines due to me being in a bed mental position.
Thank you,
John Duncan
