Petition Letter

Petition Letter: To whom it may concern,

I would like to request aegrotat standing in the course FREN 305, due to the extenuating circumstances that I have faced in the Winter 2015 semester. I would like to be able to graduate in June 2015 and hope that this appeal can be considered in time so that I may be able to graduate. Starting in February of 2015, I began struggling with my mental health. I have been struggling with a historical trauma that continues to impact my life. In my last semester my problems worsened and became unmanageable. As a result, I found it difficult to concentrate and complete daily tasks, such as academic work. It was difficult for me to pay attention in my courses, however I particularly struggled in this course due to language barriers. Completing my assignments in French continued to be difficult for me and heightened my anxiety problems. I also struggled to maintain my previous academic abilities when completing the exam for this course, as I continued to have anxiety and stress related problems. My problems have continued to prevent me from completing my work and I would like to have the opportunity to have an exemption from my remaining coursework so that I can seek medical treatment in my hometown and continue to heal.

My problems have been highly serious over the past few weeks. I have sought medical attention through Health and Disability Services and have been treated by Dr. Condra. I am continuing to struggle with my mental health and would like to be able to return to Toronto to seek additional treatment and be with my family.

Thank you for your consideration,

Catherine Hart
