Petition Letter: My mother was diagnosed with cancer in the fall of 2018, although her battle is soon coming to an end. As this situation has progressed, it has only taken a greater toll on my mental health. My mother's palliative care team has given her weeks left to live and I believe that it is my best interest to go home and spend time with my family. This decision of returning home will prevent me from being in Kingston during the formal exam week. I have sought exam considerations and have been informed of the option of deferring my final exams to a later date in the summer, although, as my grief counsellor has advised, deferring my exams will only provide more unwanted stress on my mental and physical health. I also believe that if I were to remain at Queen's for my final exams, I would have a significantly worse performance due to elevated anxiety and grief that I would be facing. It is for these reasons that I am interested in requesting that I receive an Aegrotat Standing Grade in replacement of my final examinations this semester.
