Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: Hello,

The reason for this petition is that I had originally dropped the course (or so I thought). I am not exactly sure why the system did not register the drop. There could have been a connection issue on my end. My apologies.

My son was born 5 months prior to the beginning of this course. After enrollment, my wife and
I quickly realized that it would not be possible to cover the cost of tuition and any other fees
necessary to take the course once she was receiving EI since the money coming in was limited. There was no way I would not be able to cover the household and education costs, so I had to drop the course (at least I thought I did). I believe this was the right decision since we are barely covering the household costs at the moment. If you view my participation in the course history, you will see that I did not submit any assignments nor partake in any discussions. I did not write the exam since I thought I had dropped the course. I had not communicated with anyone from Queen's University other than the registrar's office. I have not taken any other courses nor enrolled in any courses at all. I have never taken a class at Queen's. Furthermore, I have attached an email thread from the course professor (Danielle LaGrone) confirming that I did not participate in any way in her class.

I can provide the birth certificate of my son as proof of the circumstances that led to my decision
not to take the course upon request. My wife is pregnant again and it will become even harder to make any payments with 2 children under the age of 2, let alone a payment of almost 2000 for something I did not utilize.

Again, I would like to sincerely apologize for the error. If you can please approve this request it would be greatly appreciated. Please let me know if you need me to provide any other
information / documentation.
