Petition Letter

Petition Letter: To whom it may concern,

My name is Carly Wedge and I am submitting an application to drop the course, DEVS 221 ¿¿ Topics in Aboriginal Studies, after the deadline. I had originally enrolled in three courses for the Winter 2015 term, but as I was also working a full-time job, I quickly realized I wouldn¿¿t be able to succeed in all three courses. Before the add/drop deadline I logged onto Solus and dropped (or so I thought) DEVS 221 and DEVS 230, so that I would only have one course to focus on. Both courses continued to show up on my Moodle account all term, but this had happened before when I needed to drop a course, so I assumed it was fine.

Unfortunately it didn¿¿t come to my attention until during the exam period when I went to speak to an academic advisor that DEVS 221 had not been successfully dropped and I was still enrolled in the course. I immediately contacted Professor Robert Lovelace and explained my situation to see if there was anything I could do to make up my mark, but as he explained, the course requires students to attend lectures and class discussions, and there was no way for me to gain the full benefits of the course without attending. Professor Lovelace explained to me that the best option was to appeal to have the course dropped through the Arts and Science department and that he will support this appeal.

I am embarrassed and feel terrible that a silly little mistake of not double checking my account could possibly lead to me failing a whole course and would be incredibly grateful if this appeal was approved and I could fix my mistake in the fall and take Professor Lovelace¿¿s course again next year when I have the time and energy to do so.

If you have any further questions or comments please do not hesitate to contact me. Thank you for your time and consideration.

Regards,

Carly Wedge, 10020135
