Petition Letter
Petition Letter: To whom it may concern,
I am writing this letter as I would like to drop BIOL 103 and GPHY 102. The reasoning for my late request is due to a variety of mental health issues I have been struggling with this semester which stem over the past three years. From the beginning of the semester in January, I have been battling a war against depression that barred me from attending classes. Most days I isolate myself in my house, rarely interacting with anyone other than my roommates which has vastly impacted my social life with friends and family. In addition, being holed up in my room has led me to lead a terrible diet and get absolutely no exercise and I can now see the effects it is having on my overall health. In the fall I was doing well, attending most classes and maintaining healthy habits, but due to my previous history of mental health issues combined with the dismal winter weather this semester has been a very difficult time for me. Due to all this, I have missed many assessments for the aforementioned classes that will no doubt result in my failure of the course which I cannot afford as my GPA is dangerously low. One of my worst habits is procrastination, which applies to schoolwork but also spreads across all of my responsibilities in life. Whenever I think about a task that needs to be completed, I always tell myself, I'll do it tomorrow, and the next day it fades out of mind leading to more difficulties. I know it is quite late to be submitting this letter, which is due to my constant delay, but I realized today that I actually need to get this done so that I do not hurt my grades anymore. I have neglected to begin any counseling, but I will be meeting with a therapist weekly once examination period is over and this summer, I plan to work on creating a healthier mind space and in turn better habits in all areas; academic, social, and health so that I can be the best version of me. I would like to conclude this letter by thanking you for taking the time to read this divulgence and I extremely hope my appeal to drop the two courses is accepted with great reverence.
Sincerely,
Alan Rogers - 20215465
