Petition Letter
Petition Letter: Hello, The reason I am asking to drop both Chem 112 and Math 121/124 is that after the winter break I developed a skin lesion called a pilonidal cyst near my anus where I sit down. It is impossible to sit for certain periods of times for when I need to focus and study for my exams and do homework. I've tried to do work but I'd either had to stand or be on my knees which hurt extremely because I also have scoliosis. The cyst I have cannot be treated until school is finished because once the surgery is preformed it needs 6-7 weeks to heal and causes pain in the area when pressure is applied. Everyday I have to put a new piece of paper towel to soak up the puss and blood which is time consuming as I cannot get the area infected or it may be even more dangerous. The odor the cyst produces is unbearable, I can't concentrate sometimes because the smell is nauseating. Scabs form on the cyst and overtime I shower it comes off and is extremely painful when removing it, and when removed flesh is exposed and blood/puss comes out and is extremely annoying to take care of. I went to the emergency back in Toronto and the most they could do is clean it up and I went one time in Kingston as well but they did the same thing and prescribed me anti biotics which barely worked. I thought I'd be fine with exams but obviously not as it's just hard to sit down on my desk and review material. I was also advised that sitting down for certain periods of time causes pressure on the cyst making more flesh come out which is even worse, my garbage bin is filled with paper towels of blood and puss that's soaked in. Most of the day I spend my time laying down on my stomach on my bed trying to do work but it is very very inconvenient. Laboratories and Tutorial's were mandatory for Chem 112 and I had no choice to attend them so I took 2 tablets of Tylenol to numb any sort of pain and sprayed cologne over myself near my rear area to repel the smell of my cyst. I currently have an appointment scheduled for May 7th and that's only to do a checkup and the surgery will prob be preformed late may or early June or maybe even late June. Still, even after my surgery it takes 6-7 weeks to recover fully which is almost 2-3 months of the summer. If I didn't have this issue I would be able to take the exam (I have been struggling with this issue since the beginning of the Winter Break when my cyst burst) I have papers showing proof I went to the emergency with what I was diagnosed with and the surgeon I was referred to along with their information if needed. I was planning to ask for the surgery during the break but they said it wouldn't be possible as it would effect my academic year but I didn't realize it would get this bad. I was planning to re take both courses again next year if I had the chance as my entire winter semester was ruined by this uncontrollable cyst I have.

New Information: I went to the Student Health Centre and was able to get a Doctor to fill out a form that shows the severity of my current situation. I was also able to contact my Math 121/124 professor and they were willing to help me through this process.
