Petition Letter
Petition Letter: Dear Associate Dean (Academic),
I am petitioning to late drop FILM 200, GPHY 227, and HIST 228 and for credit standing in GPHY 101 and GPHY 243 from the Fall 2022 academic term.
I have an ongoing health condition that has impacted me for the duration of my academic career and beyond. In the Fall 2022 term, my condition worsened severely to the point where I stopped going to classes and completing any work. Outside of school, I was unable to do anything in any other aspect of my life (connect with friends, eating, sleep, take care of myself, etc.). This exacerbation of my already present health challenges worsened after a traumatic event that occurred on November 6th 2022, where I was brought to Kingston General Hospital for emergency care. Following this visit, I was connected with additional health care supports, but this severe exacerbation of my symptoms persisted for the remainder of the term and into the Winter 2023 term. With support from Student Wellness and my family, we reached out to my instructors and I was given incomplete grades for some of my courses, but I was unable to finish the work due to the ongoing symptoms.
More recently (after the Winter 2023 reading week), my symptoms have started to become more manageable. I have started a new medication and have been connected with a new health care provider, who I see on a weekly basis. I continue to use my accommodations with Accessibility Services. Also, I reduced my course load to 3 courses this term, which has been helpful in re-learning how to manage course work with my symptoms. Since seeing these changes in my symptoms, I have been able to submit my assignments this term and have a positive outlook on future terms. I am really hoping that I can continue on this positive trajectory, but also this health condition continues to persist and it is episodic. As a result, I am connected with services on an ongoing basis and have accommodations in place.
Sincerely,
Anna
