Petition Letter: Petition for Extension to an IN Grade for FILM236 Winter 2019
Dear Associate Dean and Members of the Petitions & Appeals Committee,
I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing to request an extension to an IN grade for the course FILM236, which I took during the Winter 2019 semester. My professor, Ian Robinson, has already submitted a grade change request on my behalf due to an assignment that was handed in late, and I have been advised to submit this petition by Libby Hearn, the Academic Operations Manager at the Faculty of Arts and Science.
In the winter of 2019, I participated in a course group project for FILM236, contributing to the project Proposal, annotated bibliography, slides, and recorded presentation. However, I handed in the discussion paper late, which represented my individual contribution to the group project. As a result, I received a 0 for the entire group project, which brought my overall grade for the class down from an A to a D+.
I understand that it is my responsibility to ensure that all required assignments are submitted on time. However, I believe that receiving a 0 for the entire group assignment is unfair, especially since my group received A's for the other parts of the project. I have discussed this issue with my professor, and he has kindly agreed to submit a grade change request on my behalf.
I have attached the email from Libby Hearn to provide documentation and support for this petition. I kindly ask you to consider my request for an extension to an IN grade for FILM236 and to take into account the extenuating circumstances surrounding my failure to submit the discussion paper on time.
