Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: I am appealing to drop my HIST 108 course (Fall 2022) because of continuous struggles with mental illness flare ups that have affected my year. My ability to complete assignments, keep up with course content and attend class have all been negatively impacted. During the fall term I did not receive access to the support that I needed and in the midst of things, I failed to inform my professors of my situation adequately. I dropped two of my full year courses in order to lighten my course load for the winter term. This term I went to each of my professors and discussed the situation thoroughly. A plan was set into place that gives me the chance to complete my courses. I am able to salvage those courses. I also attempted to receive an incomplete for the HIST 108 course, but it was too late for my professor to be able to grant me one. As a result, I would like to drop this course so that it does not tarnish my GPA and I can have the opportunity to succeed in future years. In the future I will take a similar approach to that of the winter term. I am also receiving professional help so that I can manage my symptoms and will continue to take lighter course loads until major issues are resolved. Thank you for your consideration.
