Petition Letter: Dear Queen's Associate Dean (Academic),
My name is Victoria Da Silva. I have just completed the winter term of my second year in Philosophy (BAH) and the Certificate in Law program. As of this evening, I have received all of my final grades on SOLUS for the winter term. The final grade I wish to be reviewed is my PHIL260 final examination grade. I was unpleasantly surprised upon receiving this grade as I went into the final exam with an A, an A that I worked tirelessly all semester to achieve. This is something that both the professor and the teaching assistant can attest to. I have been unable to conclusively verify the exact grade point average I achieved in the course before the final examination. This is because the OnQ course was locked indefinitely prior to my final grades being made available. The final grade I received on SOLUS was a B+. Although I know that a B+ is an objectively decent grade, I am quite disappointed in my result because it was simply unexpected. I have made efforts to reach out to my professor, Nancy Salay, and my Teaching Assistant, Micha Reigner, for feedback on my performance on the final exam, but I have yet to receive a response from either party. Upon submitting my inquiry to Professor Salay, I received an automated email response that read (verbatim) Thank you for your message. Please note that I will be away from the office May 8 - May 30 inclusive. I will be responding to your email as soon as I can upon my return. Thank you for your understanding. For this reason, I am proactively reaching out to you, as the final grades on SOLUS are to be officially printed on transcripts on May 12 (4 days from today - May 8th). My intention with this letter is not to irrationally question Professor Salay's work as I had a phenomenal experience with her style of instruction and thoroughly enjoyed the course. I am explicitly asking to receive my grade for the final exam and for you, the Associate Dean (Academic), to review my final examination. I am aware that it is very rare for mistakes to be made with final grade publishing at this stage of the academic year, but I want to ensure that an input error did not occur, as this course dramatically decreased my cumulative grade point average. Thank you so much for your consideration, I am looking forward to hearing from you soon.
