Petition Letter

Petition Letter: To whom it may concern,

It is with great remorse that I inform you of my intent to drop Biology 321 post-academic deadline.

This past year, I have been tackling mental health issues. These mental health issues have impacted the regularity of my day (diet, sleeping pattern, fatigue), but more notably, have hindered my success in the classroom. Though I was resistant to recognize it, depression and anxiety have affected my ability to concentrate and study effectively. This resistance in acceptance was the driving reason why the course wasn't dropped before the deadline.

The stresses of my parents divorce this year have triggered these mental health issues. My mother's subsequent financial instability and other family-related affairs have only expedited the decline of my mental health.

With much help from friends and family I have only recently been able to identify the decline in mental health, I plan on pursuing professional treatment over the summer as well as with Counseling Services at Queen's with whom I have already had appointments with. Furthermore, I plan to lower my future course load and responsibilities to prevent further damage to my academics and myself until such a time that I, along with my counselors, believe that I am ready to handle an increase in responsibilities again.

Hopefully I have provided sufficient amount of information for you to make a conclusive and confident decision, and I thank you for your time and consideration.

I look forward to hearing from you soon,

Sincerely,

Angadh Sen (10097567)

Amendment to Appeal 1048

New Information: To whom it may concern,

I am writing to you to today to provide further information as to why BIOL 321 alone was affected by my extenuating circumstances.

My mental state affected all of my courses taken concurrently with BIOL 321. I wrongly thought challenging myself with a third year course as a second year would be an excellent idea and a good way to keep up with my credits. BIOL 321 proved to be, by far, my most demanding class and as a result I performed poorly. Once I had decided my mark in BIOL 321 couldn¿¿t be salvaged, I abandoned the course in an effort to redeem my marks in other courses.

I hope this explanation is sufficient enough to answer your inquiries, and I apologize for not including it in my previous statement. I look forward to your response.

Sincerely,

Angadh Sen (10097567)
