Petition Letter
Petition Letter: I am asking the Associate Dean (Academic) to please accept my request to drop courses late from the 2021 Winter term at Queen??s University.
During the Winter 2021 semester, I experienced significant traumatic events which substantially impacted my physical health, mental wellness, and overall livelihood (began January 21, 2021). The personal severity from enduring and witnessing such traumas negatively challenged who I am as a person and as a student for longer than expected due to the beginnings of the COVID-19 global pandemic. For these reasons, this is why I am Petitioning at present to drop courses from the Winter 2021 term. Since Winter 2021, I have been able to access various supports that have assisted me in getting back to a place where I can be academically successful.
As mentioned, difficulties from extenuating circumstances beyond my control began in January 2021 and escalated to a point at which I required a medical leave (but was not aware of the process). I was also too scared to ask for anything regarding help. This Leave was required, as I needed to take care of my health and well-being.
At present time, I have sustained remission, and I am in a much better situation now health-wise to return to academics. My Return to Studies request has been approved, and I have connected to support on campus in order to maintain these gains. My hope is that the Petition to Late Drop is approved so I can continue working with the Faculty of Arts & Science in creating a solid academic plan moving forward with my higher educational goals.
Thank you very much for your time, consideration, and patience.
