Petition Letter

Petition Letter: To the esteemed Petitions and Appeals team of Queen's Arts and Science,

I am writing this letter with the earnest hope of being granted enrollment in the summer term courses PSYC 100 and MATH 121.

Regarding MATH 121, I regret not including it in my initial summer course selection due to the unavailability of final marks at that time. The deadline of May 5th fell before the release of our final grades, leaving me uncertain about my performance in the course. Consequently, I chose not to enroll in advance, as I could not determine whether I had failed or attained a satisfactory grade.

As for PSYC 100, my motivation to enroll in the summer term stems from my strong desire to prove my capabilities and establish a solid foundation for success in my second year. Being a concurrent education student, the completion of the PSYC 100 course is crucial for my degree requirements. Admittedly, I acknowledge that PSYC 100 is not my strongest subject, and I encountered challenges while grasping the course material. Nevertheless, I exerted my utmost effort to comprehend the concepts and dedicated myself wholeheartedly to the endeavor.

The prospect of having to retake these courses during the 2023/2024 school year is disconcerting, as it may impede my academic progress and potentially have significant repercussions on my future career. I am committed to ensuring a seamless academic journey, and any delay caused by not being able to take these courses in the upcoming summer term would be detrimental to my overall goals.

In light of these circumstances, I humbly request your understanding and favorable consideration of my petition to add PSYC 100 and MATH 121 to my summer term schedule. Your assistance in this matter would be immensely appreciated, as it would allow me to pursue my educational aspirations without hindrance.

Thank you for your attention and support.

Sincerely,

Chris Chen

Academic Plan

Academic Plan: As stated in my previous correspondence, I am currently enrolled as a concurrent education student with a strong interest in teaching sciences at the intermediate/senior level. Biology, in particular, has captivated my attention, and I initially aimed to pursue it as my major. However, I acknowledge that I fell short of the necessary requirements. Reflecting on my first year, I have gained valuable insights into my areas of weakness and I am determined to excel and make significant improvements in the upcoming semesters.

While I faced considerable challenges in MATH 121, mathematics has consistently posed a difficulty throughout my academic journey. Nevertheless, I deliberately chose to undertake this course, recognizing its relevance in advancing my aspiration to teach biology in the future. Despite not achieving the desired outcome, I refuse to be discouraged. Instead, I am fully committed to embracing another opportunity to enhance my performance and pursue my desired path in the field of biology.

Through self-reflection, I have identified key strategies to become a more effective student, such as implementing a rigorous study schedule and optimizing my time management skills. Having already completed the course, I am well-prepared to meet the rigorous academic demands associated with these additional courses.

I sincerely hope to be granted the opportunity to enroll in these courses and continue progressing towards my goals.
