Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: To whom it may concern, I was enrolled in a reduced course load this year due to personal issues going on at home. I was falling behind in this class and I made my professor aware of my circumstances. It had gotten to a point where I was unable to submit my assignments due to a pretty scary situation that had happened at home regarding my brother and his mental and physical safety. Since we live alone just the two of us I felt I was the only person who could help him at this time. I have a doctor's note explaining the situation more in detail that I provided to my professor. At that time he advised me to drop the course even though the deadline had already passed. I dropped the course and did not receive any error message. When the semester had finished and I went to check my grades on Solus I had seen that my grade for WRIT 125 was an F. I emailed my professor and he advised me to seek help through Arts & Science because at this point it was out of his control. This is why I am now submitting this petition. Please take into consideration that I am currently on academic probation and need a 1.6 average or I will have to withdraw for a year and this failing grade is severely bringing down my GPA at the moment.
