Petition Letter

Petition Letter: Dear Associate Dean,

I hope this message finds you well. I am a junior student majoring in Economics, and my student number is 20167700. I am writing to submit an academic petition and kindly request your consideration of my situation. Please accept my sincere apologies for any inconvenience caused.

I am seeking to request Aegrotat Standing for two courses, Econ231 and Econ332, which I applied for during the 2022 academic season. The final exams for these courses, which account for 40% of the overall grades, coincided with an unfortunate bout of illness where I developed a high fever. Consequently, I contacted my professors and requested a deferral for the exams. In January 2023, I received notification to sit for the deferred exams and successfully completed both of them.

However, upon the conclusion of the semester, I was informed by my professor that he had not received any confirmation from the academic consideration department regarding my previous application, causing him to be unable to record my deferred exam grades. Upon further inquiry with the academic consideration department, I discovered that there was a misunderstanding in our previous communication, and I failed to timely submit the required support documents, leading to the rejection of my application. Unfortunately, I am not eligible to reapply for the request from the previous semester.

The purpose of this petition letter is to request Aegrotat Standing for these two courses. I have already fulfilled 60% of the course requirements, and I have successfully completed and passed the deferred exams, which account for 40% of the overall grades. I have support documents available to verify and substantiate my short-term or long-term requests. Regrettably, due to my own oversight in failing to follow up on the deferred application process promptly, my petition was not approved.

I sincerely hope that my request will be given due consideration. The grades for these two courses hold significant importance for me, not only because they are core courses in my major but also because they serve as prerequisites for the 400-level course taught by the same professors, which I intend to enroll in during the upcoming semester. Here is my professor's email: keay@queensu.ca

I deeply regret my own negligence in promptly attending to these matters, resulting in this unfortunate situation. I assure you that I have learned from this experience and will prioritize time management and diligently attend to administrative procedures to prevent any future recurrences.

Thank you for your time in reviewing my application. I deeply value my education and am committed to fulfilling my academic obligations. Your understanding and help in this matter would mean a lot to me. I eagerly await your response.

Yours sincerely,

Baocheng Chen
