Petition Letter: Dear Associate Dean Dr. Jenn Stephenson,
I am petitioning to drop CISC 101 (Summer, 2023). I want to drop this course because my grandfather passed away this May and this event has greatly affected my mental and physical well-being. It has been extremely difficult on my family which has not been easy for me to handle.
My grandpa??s passing has caused me to fall behind on handing in assignments and completing tasks, and because this course is condensed, it was extremely difficult for me to catch up. I applied for academic considerations for two of my summer courses and discussed possible options to move forward with my profs. My CISC professor suggested that at this point in the term, it wasn??t possible for me to submit an alternate assignment or hand in old assignments late because solutions to past assignments had already been posted. He suggested late dropping the course might be my best option. I am not dropping COGS 100 because my professor agreed to let me take my time and hand my assignments in by the end of the term.
During this time, I have been speaking to my counselor, Emily, through wellness services. She has helped me develop healthy coping strategies and aided me in making this decision. I am also putting more effort into managing my time efficiently and sticking to my schedule. This will help me stay on top of assignments in the future. I am hoping to retake CISC 101 in the coming fall or winter term. I am planning on graduating next spring and I really want to succeed.
Thank you so much for your time
