Petition Letter: To whom it may concern,
I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to explain the circumstances that led me to decide to drop COGS 100 for this semester. I regret any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your understanding and support.
Over the past month, I have been dealing with significant mental health challenges that have increasingly impacted my ability to cope with the demands of this course. As a result, despite my initial interest in this class, I realized that continuing at this accelerated pace would further jeopardize my mental well-being and academic performance. In addition, my symptoms have intensified, making it extremely difficult to maintain the commitment and engagement required to succeed in this class.
It is important to mention that I knew I wanted to drop this course far in advance of the faculty permission date but, for some reason, could not do it on my own through SOLUS. I attempted to get help from my academic advisors but could not get through to either of them in time.
Furthermore, I always intend to prioritize my mental health and have been working to be able to afford the appropriate professional support. That being said, I do not have supporting documentation to confirm my mental health difficulties as I have not yet been able to afford to seek help.
I believe it is in my best interest to focus on caring for myself and pursuing a more sustainable academic path by letting go of this course that is not required for me to graduate. I appreciate your understanding and hope this can be resolved smoothly.
Best,
Alexa Zigon
