Petition Letter
Petition Letter: I am writing to discuss a deeply personal matter that has significantly impacted my ability to continue with the course, PSYC 100. It is with great sadness that I inform you of the loss of a loved one due to mental health, and this has left me in a state of emotional distress and mourning. I regret to inform you that due to circumstances, I find myself in a position where I need to drop this course.
Losing my cousin, Vincent Eden (Obituary Link: https://memorials.dufferin.bernardofuneralhomes.com/vincent-joshua-eden/4942859/), has been an immense shock to me and my family. Though it has been a little over a year since his passing, the grieving process has been overwhelming, and I have found it incredibly difficult to concentrate on my academic responsibilities during this time. The emotional toll has made it challenging for me to attend classes, complete assignments, and engage in course discussions effectively. On top of that have been challenged with work (which am working towards lessening my hours) and my own mental health. I have been recently seeing a healthcare professional regarding all of this, I have been taking medication as prescribed by the doctor, and taking steps to improve my well-being.
I understand that the deadline for course drops has already passed, and I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this may cause. However, I genuinely believe that granting me an exception in this situation would be compassionate and understanding of the difficult circumstances I am facing. I am willing to provide any necessary documentation, such as an obituary to support my request.
I want to assure you that I take my education seriously and I understand the importance of adhering to the academic policies and deadlines, and I apologize for not requesting this course drop sooner. However, I have reached a point where I must prioritize my mental and emotional well-being to navigate through this difficult period of loss and grief.
I kindly request your understanding and consideration of my situation. If it is at all possible to grant me permission to drop the course without academic penalty, I would be immensely grateful. I am more than willing to discuss this matter further. Before doing so, please let me know if this will affect my ability to continue taking online courses with Queens. I am willing and determined to complete my studies with Queens University in better circumstances and plan to re-enrol into courses for Fall 2023.
Thank you for your time and attention to this matter. I understand the demands of your schedule and appreciate your thoughtful consideration. I eagerly await your response and hope for a positive resolution.
Sincerely,
Kimberly Anne Castro
