Petition Letter: Queen's University,
To who it may concern,

I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing to request your understanding and consideration regarding my situation, and to request the withdrawal from the courses APSC112 (Physics 2) and APSC174 (Linear Algebra) beyond the official deadline.

Over the course of this academic year, I have been grappling with personal health challenges that have greatly impacted my capacity to excel academically. It was only recently that I was diagnosed with ADHD, a condition which, as someone who was homeschooled and raised in a small community, remained undiagnosed. Prior to my diagnosis, I have been struggling with symptoms that include difficulty concentrating, remaining organized, and managing time efficiently. These challenges have considerably affected my ability to fully comprehend and retain the content covered in APSC112 and APSC174.

Recognizing my struggles, I sought professional guidance from occupational therapists with Student Wellness Services. It was recommended that, given my circumstances, I focus on the courses in which I have a higher chance of success and which align more directly with my future academic and career goals. In light of these recommendations, I chose to prioritize the other courses in my schedule. That decision was not made lightly. However, it was a strategic move to safeguard my mental health and academic performance. I believed that excelling in fewer courses, which are more relevant to my future career goals, was a more intelligent approach at the time.

I fully understand and respect the rules and regulations set forth by the University. However, I ask you to consider the unique nature of my situation. This diagnosis has been a revelation which has necessitated a shift in my approach to education and other aspects of life. This request to withdraw from these two courses is not an attempt to evade responsibility but a measure in to aid me in understanding and managing my condition.
It is my hope that, with this newfound understanding of my condition and a proper treatment plan in place, I will be better equipped to meet the rigorous demands of my studies in the future.

Thank you for your consideration. I am eager to continue my academic journey at Queen's University, armed with the tools and strategies to manage my ADHD, and I am confident that I can meet and exceed expectations in my future coursework.
