Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: During the entire Winter semester of 2023, I was enrolled and completing Econ320. While the course was going well, during the final exam of the course, I had an unexpected medical emergency. I had a seizure in the middle of my exam. I have never had a seizure before so as you could imagine this was entirely unexpected and scary. After taking time to figure out my next steps and how to go about completing my courses, with the guidance of prof Cromb we decided dropping the course would be the best option. Initially, the opportunities given to me were to re-write the exam this coming September or December. Both of those were poor options for me as I would've forgotten all content by the time it was time to write my exam. Not to mention the added stress. The reason for my seizure was simply too much stress. Therefore writing a make-up exam many months after my last lecture in the class will not be beneficial for my mental health. Originally I tried to apply for an AG in the course, but because I only had 50% of the course completed (60% of course completion is needed for AG) this is not an option. Although it's extremely unfortunate I spent hundreds of dollars as well as all semester working hard on this course, the university has failed to provide me with any reasonable solutions to earn this credit while still protecting my mental health given my medical history. After all this, and many meetings with Ian Cromb, we have decided that writing a petition to erase this course from my transcript would be the best idea. Hopefully, you understand.
