My name is Youssef Taher, a first-year student at Queens University. I am writing to you as regards my current and past medical condition which constrained me markedly during the last couple of years. I just came out of the hospital (KGH) after being admitted for a period of about 4 weeks struggling with my medical condition and was discharged with a close follow up for the seriousness of my medical condition. I am also on a strong continuous medical treatment which may continue long term or for the rest of my life. I have received a letter from the KGH explaining my medical condition and I can bring any other documents for my case if you want me to bring that too.
I wanted to share my reflections on the past two years of my academic journey. Despite my best efforts to keep up with my peers and establish good study habits, I've faced challenges in fully tapping into my potential. Staying focused and disciplined has been a struggle. Looking back, I see these two years as a time of growth. I've learned from setbacks and transformed them into opportunities. This has ignited a genuine desire to return to my studies, focusing on subjects that truly captivate my interest.
Admittingly, I used to pick courses on a whim, just to say I did. Now, my intention is to approach education differently. I'm aiming for a path that aligns with my professional goals and brings fulfillment. By doing this, I believe I'll shed stress and the weight of past choices. Choosing a career deserves careful consideration. Impulsive decisions can lead to long-term dissatisfaction and stress. I'm committed to a more thoughtful approach, steering clear of last-minute choices and embracing a deliberate journey toward a rewarding future.
I apologize for not living up to my potential in the past and am eager to show how I've evolved. This appeal is a plea for a chance to demonstrate my growth. I'm confident that with this opportunity, I can become a confident student, ready to tackle challenges and contribute positively. Education is a cornerstone of progress, shaping a fulfilling life. I see this fresh start as a turning point. With determination, I believe I can channel newfound discipline into meaningful change.

1. I had an ongoing exam for MATH121 that I had extended all the way until july 31st to complete
2. I was admitted to the hospital and my condition was worsening up until July 15th

- The Associate Dean's decision did not follow the rules of procedural fairness. A breach of procedural fairness includes such things as the Associate Dean failed to:
- Make a reasonable decision in your appeal. A “reasonable” decision is one that is based on evidence, thought out and supported by facts and logical inferences from the facts. To be reasonable, the decision must contain adequate reasons for the conclusions.
Appeal Grounds Details: To be more precise by the dean being unreasonable; It’s more like her reasonings for denying my old appeal were all things that I was able to have a rebuttal for. She asked for 3 things which I have documents and logical proof to debate against.

Appeal Letter: Hello,
This is a second appeal letter attempting to address the alleged reasons as to why I got my appeal denied. I would just like to say that I understand the reasoning behind why my appeal was denied however I do have rebuttal points that I feel like were missed, hoping for reconsideration. This decision will have a huge effect on my life and even my mental health condition.
To begin, I read in my reply to the former appeal that the appeal process is not meant to handle long term circumstances (aka chronic conditions) as well as the student must assess their progress by week 7 to make a decision by week 8. To this I would like to confirm that my academic progress during the week 7-8 time window was going well enough, and I had felt that I was progressing well at that time. I was attending all my classes on-time as well as my labs and had no problem, it was only by the end of the year when I started to suffer greatly from severe attacks of my illness which led me to go to the hospital and visit my doctor more than one time to make deferrals for my exams in April and May 2023. This means that during the week 7 and 8 timeline I was okay enough to resume, however my medical condition caught up after the fact. It was technically not a chronic condition but actually a series of severe acute attacks which worsened over time.
Furthermore, I saw in the reply that I do not have medical documentation for explaining why I missed the June 13th deadline, for this I apologize. I have attached to this letter proof that I had the same lingering condition even before the June 13th deadline (May 13th), using a doctor’s note, as well as an email confirmation that I will have an exam by July 31st by the program coordinator. This proves by that time that I didn’t need to make an appeal during this time, I was not well from between May 13th to July 31st due to an upcoming exam, I was still amidst my studies.
Finally, it is mentioned that I do not have documentation for what I will plan to do to manage my circumstances to ensure that I succeed in studies. I would like to say that currently by the time I am making this letter I do not have the documentation needed for this request however I suspect to have it by September 14th from my new doctor team and mentors. I would like to point out the fact that I have received the wrong medication for as formerly mentioned 1.5 years, and just now have finally been prescribed the correct medication after a long series of misdiagnosed illnesses, also having to stay in the hospital for an entire month. I also am getting monthly checkups by the doctors at the Heads Up! program at Hotel Dieu, this proves that I am an individual that is being monitored and closely surveyed. These 2 things together should prove that I am ready to walk into the next year utilizing these newly implemented measures.
To whomever is reading this, your decision will have a huge impact on my life, I am hoping that you consider all the events that I have gone through and my hope to resume a normal academic year. I plan to do better after the marked effect of my new medications and program that I am doing currently plus my feeling of great well being . I can feel how strong I am and I know I will have challenges to prove to everyone that I am capable to perform to the best of my abilities and show my real quality if you help me to do that.
