Petition Letter
Petition Letter: Hello,
I am writing you to request special approval for two courses I have taken at York University's Glendon campus. I had requested letters of permission for both and, unkown to me, they were denied on the grounds that I can only take a maximum 6.0 credits elsewhere during the F/W terms.
These are the effected requests:
0000379829 - HIST 3255
0000391609 - HIST 3257
There are two reasons I completed these courses without permission.
First, I simply had no idea that there was a maximum amount of credits to take per year. Had I known this I would not have taken more than the allowed amount. I had spoken to an academic advidor about my plans to take these courses and clearly she didn't know about this limit either. She is no longer working as an academic advisor but I can ask her to corroborate if requested.
Second, having made the requests I was lead to believe that they were approved. This is because (and I now realize my ignorance) I believed that when the status of these requests went from

Academic Plan
Academic Plan: I recently spoke with academic advisor Kerri Andrews regarding my plan going forward. She encouraged me to request this appeal and offered her support if references were requested. Kerri also advised me that there is a firm limit on History courses I can take elsewhere and, if these are approved, my plan is as follows:
To date (included the now excluded courses) I have taken 15.0 credits at Glendon/York (I live in the neighbourhood)
HIST 3255* (Grade: A)
HIST 3277* (Grade: A)
HIST 4500 (Grade: A+)
HIST 3700 (Grade: A)
Additionally, I plan on taking one more course this upcoming F/W (6.0) which is also a core seminar (as is 4500). This will put me at 21.0 of the 24.0 I'm eligible to take at another institution. I am also planning on taking an online course with Queen's, HIST 211 but I am waiting for a spot to open up in late registration. I will add one 3.0 elective in the Winter term.
Assuming all goes to plan, and I am successful in these courses, I will be left with two requirements to fulfil my degree: one 6.0 credit core seminar in History to take at Queen's and 27.0 credits of electives.
Please let me know if you need any further information, for instance I have produced a copy of my official transcript which I can send upon request.
Thank you very much for your consideration,
Mike Morris
