Petition Letter: Dear Associate Dean,
I'm appealing to drop Enin 240 (Fall, 2023). I experienced uncontrollable extenuating circumstances last winter term. In January 2023, I began to experience symptoms of chest tightness and panic because of stress and an irregular diet. Those symptoms did not affect my studies then, so I continued attending classes. The symptoms have become apparent in March (during the final period); I became breathless and feverish. I started having trouble eating and sleeping through the night. If I stare at the computer for too long, I get dizzy and tinnitus. The state I was in seriously affected my everyday life and classes. I made an appointment with my family doctor and went to the emergency to have my heart and blood checked. All tests showed no problems. Later, I returned to my home country and was diagnosed with anxiety disorder and chronic gastritis. I explained my situation to my professors and was given INCOMPLETE grades in two of my classes, Film 206 and Film 318. My professor for Enin 240 required me to apply for academic consideration and provide documentation to prove my illness. At that time, I could not apply for academic consideration due to my inability to look at any electronics and my severe anxiety, so I received an F. While recovering, I stayed away from all sources of stress. I'm actively cooperating with my treatment by taking my medication. Although it's not fully healed, it doesn't affect my everyday life. Therefore, I want to apply to drop this class I didn't pass not to affect my GPA and graduation.
Yours,
Colyn.
