Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: I am petitioning to drop ENGL 389, ENGL 357 and ENGL 306, which occurred during the fall and winter terms of 2022 and 2023. I am also petitioning to drop my summer 2023 classes: RELS 131, PHIL 151, MUSC 171, HIST 252 and ENGL 237. As well as, petitioning the final grades I received for CLST 311 and 340 during the fall 2022 term. The circumstances I faced during the past year have been related to my mental health and the death of my grandmother. My mental health has been severely affected over the past year, having dealt with new diagnoses which I received at the end of August 2022. These diagnoses also came with trying new medications that impacted my ability to self-regulate. I overwhelmed myself both academically and with my extracurriculars. I made the assumption that by having my diagnoses and being on medications that I would be able to successfully overcome all that came my way. However, this assumption led to my downfall and left me unable to complete my academic year and the following summer semester. My summer semester was also heavily impacted by the death of my grandmother. I had expected myself to be able to complete the semester, however, my grief and mental health got the best of me. I am working with my family doctor to find medications that help me as well as working with student wellness to help me learn how to manage my mental health. In the upcoming year, I intend to regularly attend counselling sessions, inform my professors of my mental health and keep my support system informed of any of the issues or problems I am facing. By doing the previously mentioned I am hopeful that I will succeed in my academic career.
