Petition Letter: To whom this may concern,
My name is Maggi Neinstein and I am a 3rd year Sociology student. I am writing to you today to express my intention to study abroad at the Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona in the Winter of 2024. I am interested in adding this additional academic experience and cultural exposure to my current academic studies. In Barcelona, I will be able to expand my horizons academically and learn so many important life skills living abroad on my own. Ultimately I am hoping to develop a new, fresh perspective on my education and better understand what role it has in the world. I cannot think of a better place to help me broaden my horizons academically and personally than in Barcelona.
My whole life I have grown up in Canada. As a child living with my parents we were very lucky to have the opportunity to travel. These experiences have motivated me to travel more and see more that this world has to offer. Several individuals close to me, including my parents, have had the privilege of exploring various parts of Europe. Their captivating stories and experiences have inspired me to want to see and explore this part of the world. The stories and experiences I have heard have fascinated me and have curated this dream of wanting to study abroad in Europe. I am excited to challenge myself by taking myself out of my comfort zone. Studying in Europe provides me access to a whole new set of personal growth and academic goals. I know it will expand my learnings and enrich my studies, and help me discover more about the world and how my own interests fit in it. Immersing myself in Barcelona’s culture and expanding my individual interests in education is very motivating for me. Learning is not just something that happens while in a classroom. Education includes a wide range of opportunities and different paths outside of the traditional classroom settings. Therefore, I am confident that there is no better way to continue my academic career than to push myself and explore a new way of learning in a different culture where I will be challenged to adapt and grow.
I understand that pursuing my studies in Barcelona for Spring 2024 means that there are numerous logistical considerations. I am planning on completing this journey with a program called International Studies Abroad (ISA) which I have already been accepted into for Spring 2024. I have been accepted and have a spot at the Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona where I am hoping to complete this journey. The program is able to support me with course selection, enrollment, housing, visa and financing and any other support I may need while studying in Barcelona. With this, I feel as if I am set up for success during my studies with this program.
For the reasons above, I believe that I am a great fit for studying abroad at the Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona in the Winter of 2024 and that the 5 courses chosen fit with my academic plan and studies. Thank you for your time and consideration. I can't wait to hear back from you.

Academic Plan
Academic Plan: I have successfully fulfilled all my academic prerequisites in the Sociology program and have a well-structured academic roadmap in place. I have already completed all the mandatory core courses and am currently on track to graduate from Queen's University in the spring of 2025. During my upcoming study abroad experience, my intention is to explore elective courses that will diversify my knowledge and encourage the development of new skills beyond the range of Sociology. The elective courses I've selected align perfectly with the remaining degree requirements. These elective courses include, Urban Interventions, Graffiti and Public Sculpture, Spanish Contemporary Art, Modernisme: Art Nouveau Architecture Sketched and Explained, Intercultural Communication, and Digital Photography.
Most of these courses are not presently available at my university but are aligned with the culture I will be engrossed in and they are of high interest to me. For example, Spanish Contemporary Art caught my attention because of my love for art, and Intercultural communications seemed interesting to me because I am fascinated by the diverse ways we interact with each other as social beings. The idea of studying these topics abroad where I am able to explore various cultural viewpoints to me is especially appealing. As well, my interests in interpersonal dynamics and social interactions in various social contexts align well with my Sociology major. I believe some of these courses will help me bridge my current academic pursuits in Canada and expand my sociological understandings abroad. Throughout my research regarding studying abroad, Barcelona stood out prominently because of its rich historical background in art, and architectural designs. With this, I am motivated to take courses that talk about the unique essence of Barcelona and expand my knowledge about local art history while being surrounded by it.
