Petition Letter
Petition Letter: Dear Associate Dean Dr. Stephenson,
I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing to petition for an exception to the course enrollment deadline so I may be allowed to enroll in the online course FREN 107 (Fall, 2023). Due to an unforeseen family tragedy, I was unable to enroll in this course by the September 18 deadline. I would like to request an opportunity to enroll in this course and continue my academic journey.
On the weekend of September 15, my family and I were informed of the sudden loss of a family member. This news required us to make immediate travel arrangements and provided little time for me to attend to other commitments. As a result, I missed the course enrollment deadline on September 18.
In addition to this unfortunate event, I have recently returned to my studies after a hiatus. This break was taken to address personal circumstances and refocus on my academic goals. Unfortunately, this meant that I had not been in the academic routine for some time now and when the course enrollment deadline approached the thought slipped from the forefront of my mind. I regret not being more proactive in meeting this deadline, and I take full responsibility for this oversight.
I am committed to resuming my studies and making progress toward completing my degree after a long pause. To do so, it is imperative that I am able to enroll in at least one course this semester. This will allow me to regain my academic momentum and gradually reintegrate into the university environment. I would just hate to have more time pass without making tangible steps toward this goal.
I completely understand the importance of deadlines and the need for consistency in academic processes. However, I hope you can appreciate the extraordinary circumstances that have led to my current situation. I am eager to make amends for this lapse and demonstrate my commitment to my education.
Thank you for your time and consideration of my petition. If you require any further information or have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me. I look forward to the opportunity to continue my studies and make progress toward my academic goals.
Sincerely,
Dahir Dualeh
