Petition Letter

Petition Letter: To whom it may concern,

My name is Luci McIntosh, and I am in my third year at Queens University, studying in the Political Science department. I am writing to express my most profound interest in studying at the Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona in the Winter/Spring semester 2024. The opportunity to study abroad is one I do not take lightly, as I will be able to immerse myself in a new educational setting that emphasizes global viewpoints and intercultural understanding. The Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona is extensively known for its top-notch education programmes and institutions, especially its international relations department. In addition to new exposure, this experience will allow me to work with professors and students from various cultural backgrounds, enhancing my adaptability and cross-cultural communication.

For the past 20 years, I have grown up in Canada. While growing up in the same place created a source of stability and familiarity in my life, it has also fueled my appetite for new experiences and a broader understanding of the world. The Universitat de Barcelona presents a setting of self-discovery, cultural immersion, and personal growth. While leaving behind my home is scary, the opportunity to study at the institution excites me beyond measure. I am eager to take advantage of this opportunity to step towards independence and self-reliance. It is a challenge I am more than willing to take on and immerse myself in a whole different country, language, and way of life.

I have always been deeply interested in Barcelona's distinctive cultural history, architecture, and artwork. The city's status as the centre of creativity and innovation for my academic endeavours will immensely benefit me. Looking ahead, I believe this cultural experience will help my personal life and future academic endeavours.

I want to assure you that I have carefully considered the ramifications of studying abroad and created a strategy to fulfill my academic requirements. I am currently on track to graduate in Spring 2025, as I have completed all the mandatory Political Science program courses. During my time abroad, I am committed to staying on par with my academic requirements and taking advantage of the diverse range of elective courses and the university's experiential learning opportunities. I intend to enroll in courses that align with my academic interests and expand my knowledge beyond the curriculum available at Queen's. With its global student body and multinational professors, the Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona educational system offers an outstanding opportunity to investigate topics from new and fresh angles.

In conclusion, my request to study abroad is driven by the desire to broaden my intellectual and personal horizons by taking advantage of Barcelona's exceptional educational and cultural options. In addition to helping me personally, the experience will add to the variety and global outlook Queen's University emphasizes in its students.

Sincerely,

Luci McIntosh

Academic Plan

Academic Plan: To whom it may concern,

I am excited to take advantage of the many elective courses and possibilities for experiential learning that Barcelona offers during my semester there. My background in the International Baccalaureate program, which I completed, has allowed me to earn some transfer credits that significantly contribute to my ability to graduate on time from Queen's University. Additionally, I have completed all the mandatory course requirements for the Political Science degree.

First and foremost, I intend to pursue a set of elective courses that align with my major and academic interests. The elective courses I have selected consist of Spanish Contemporary Art, Digital Photography, Intercultural Communication, Urban Interventions, Politics of the Developing World, and Graffiti and Public Sculpture.

The courses I have selected for my semester abroad in Barcelona offer distinct educational opportunities not available at Queen's University. In addition to aligning with my academic interests, these courses provide a helpful viewpoint that will advance my academic career. For example, Spanish Contemporary Art explores the vibrant world of contemporary Spanish Art. The knowledge will broaden my understanding of art history and contribute to my academics by providing a unique cultural context that cannot be replicated at Queen's. Furthermore, Intercultural communication provides an increasingly interconnected global landscape. The course will improve my capacity for effective communication with people from all backgrounds, a precious skill today. These courses are not only academically stimulating, but they also match my academic and professional aspirations. They provide a breadth of information and exposure to several cultures that will be crucial for my career and personal development. Studying subjects like art history in Europe offers a singular and intriguing academic experience. Barcelona provides a real-world classroom. Students can attend to the works of art they are studying in their original settings rather than relying exclusively on textbooks and pictures.

No doubt, choosing to take a semester off and study abroad involves some practical challenges. However, I want to assure you that I am not embarking on this path carelessly, and I am making deliberate efforts to deal with these practical difficulties. I am closely working with the International Studies Abroad (ISA) program team, who are experts in facilitating study abroad programs. They guide me through the visa application procedure and ensure that all academic requirements are satisfied. Their proactive approach helps me stay on track academically and minimizes potential disruptions to my educational journey.

My academic plan summarises my ambitions and objectives for my study abroad experience in Barcelona. I am committed to Barcelona's exceptional educational and cultural options with my academic obligations at Queen's. I want to ensure my academic plan supports my academic and personal growth and aligns with my criteria for my degree by working closely with an academic advisor. I genuinely appreciate you reviewing my request, and I am confident this opportunity will considerably enhance my academic career.

Sincerely,

Luci McIntosh
