Appeal Grounds

Appeals to the Board of Studies must include a letter based on one or more of the Grounds for Appeal (Appeal Regulation 3.4). What are the grounds you are basing your appeal on?
  • The Associate Dean's decision did not follow the rules of procedural fairness. A breach of procedural fairness includes such things as the Associate Dean failed to:
    • Make a reasonable decision in your appeal. A “reasonable” decision is one that is based on evidence, thought out and supported by facts and logical inferences from the facts. To be reasonable, the decision must contain adequate reasons for the conclusions.
Appeal Grounds Details: Due to the lack of an elective course, I plan to take FILM 210, which is not offered in Queen's university, in the 2024 winter term. At the same time, I have started to apply for graduate school, which means that I must graduate in the winter term of 2024. That's one of the reasons I had to take FILM 210 off campus.

Appeal Letter

Appeal Letter: Dear staff,
I hope this email find you well. My name is Yiwen Zheng(20187595). I am reaching out to discuss an oversight on my part that has led to a scheduling conflict with my course selection for the upcoming terms.
During the initial application process, I inadvertently exceeded the maximum number of credits allowed for ILOP courses, which presented a challenge to my winter term plans. I had intended to take Film 210 during the winter term. My motivation was to explore a field that had long fascinated me, film studies, while also ensuring a manageable workload as I approached the end of my university education. Unfortunately, I have encountered a tough situation where my current ILOP restrictions prevent me from applying to these off-campus courses. This situation is also intertwined with a crucial moment in my academic journey - the beginning of the graduate school application process. I must ensure that I graduate on time for the Winter 2024 term in order to achieve my future academic and professional goals.
I have contacted the advisor of computing as well as the undergraduate chair of computing and both of them have also allowed me to take classes off campus during the winter semester, I will attach a screenshot of the email。 Enclosed are my transcripts, which I hope will demonstrate my hard work and diligence throughout my studies. In light of the above, I respectfully request that you allow me to take the above film course off-campus as elective courses during the winter term in order to break the ILOP restriction.
I deeply appreciate your consideration of my request, and I am hopeful for a resolution that supports my educational aspirations while maintaining my academic standing. Thank you for your time and understanding.
