Petition Letter

Petition Letter: Dear Associate Dean (Academic),

I hope this finds you well. I am writing to you to request the 1 year petition deadline related to dropping courses from Fall 2020 – Winter 2022 terms as I hope to further request that my courses during this time be dropped if granted.

While this is no excuse, the reason I did not submit a request to drop these courses within the 1 year deadline is because of extenuating circumstances beyond my control and knowledge. These include 1) My mental health and various incidents that took place along my depression-ADHD diagnosis journey 2) My car accident that impacted me both physically and mentally, 3) My own (made-up) fear of disappointing parents which led me to avoid finding a solution.

Being unable to acknowledge that I was experiencing psychological challenges ultimately impacted my academics and caused burn-out. This unfortunately led me down a series to poor decisions including denial, that I wish I could take back however, throughout this journey of accountability I have experienced much growth and learned immensely from my lessons. Once you hit rock bottom, the only way is up and that it what I am trying to do here for my future. Like many, during the pandemic I also struggled to be in my best academic shape with the change in learning modes and classroom environment. The reason I want to petition the 1 year deadline is to drop courses on my transcript that I truly believe do not reflect the student I am.

Since then, I have accessed much support from my various mental health providers, insurer, family physician, and mental health support from my mentors Arshiya Choudhury & first year residence don Nyah Hernandez. I am aware that this petition has surpassed the deadline but I am reaching out with hopes that it will be granted so that when I share my transcript with employers, I can do so without having to explain my extenuating circumstances.

I want to thank you for taking the time to review this letter and hope to hear from you at your convenience.

Sincerely,

Dil Ullah
