Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: In early March, during the Winter 2015 term, I was under the impression that I had properly and successfully dropped my HIST 280 course as I have finally decided that I wanted to become a religious studies and global development teacher therefore dropping my HISTORY minor but applying to change in to a RELS-DEVS Medial (honours) in order to graduate on time achieving my desired degree plan. Around the beginning of April before my final research essay and exam was due I sent an email to my professor notifying her that I have dropped the course so it should be no surprise that I will not be submitting the final essay and writing the final exam. She emailed me back stating that at the time she did not have access to her updated class list and would let me know if there have been any problems with me successfully dropping the course or not and if I am still on her list. To my surprise and great stress and unease, I received an email in the beginning of May (when final marks were due to be submitted) from HIST 280 Professor Britney Bos informing me that she has given me a final grade of an F because I was still indeed on her official class list, which she did not notify me of because as a student I do not have that access to find out for myself. As I am switching out of my current HIST minor, this was my second time dropping a course on solus and I did not recognize the process being different from the first time therefore I was unaware that it was unsuccessfully dropped, applying to teachers college, and striving to achieve Dean's List - this HIST 280 final grade of an F is extremely detrimental and does not reflect my full academic potential and efforts in the course as it was intended to be dropped and not completed. I would greatly appreciate if a DR not an F can show up on transcript not affecting me getting into teachers college, Dean's List, and significantly lowering my overall GPA.
