Petition Letter
Petition Letter: To The Associate Dean of Academics,
I respectfully submit this letter to petition to drop LLCU 247 (Fall 2023).
In the Fall of 2022 I herniated two discs in my spine. The injury went undiagnosed until Winter Break of 2022. The injury has had a significant impact on my physical and mental health. Unfortunately, as a result, my academic performance really suffered during the 2022/2023 academic year.
I have received cortisone shots in my spine and continue with physio therapy which is helping, though sitting for long periods of time is still challenging. I am working very hard to improve my grades and focus on my required classes. Though I was finding the amount of material of this class overwhelming on top of my other required courses, I did not request to drop it sooner because I find the subject matter interesting. As the semester has progressed I have found it difficult to balance the work of this class alongside my required courses while also taking care of my physical and mental health. Additionally, the professor does not register my midterms and exams with Ventus, and has me write in her office instead which creates a very stressful environment for me to write in.
I would like to drop this class so I can regain my academic footing. I will focus on my required coursework and bring my GPA up. I would like to make up this dropped course over the Summer term. I will continue to take a lighter course load through the next semester to get back on track.
I value and appreciate my place at Queen’s University. I am committed to learning and focusing on my academic performance while I continue to recover physically so I may continue and succeed in my program.
Sincerely
Kathryn Kirk
