- The Associate Dean's decision did not follow the rules of procedural fairness. A breach of procedural fairness includes such things as the Associate Dean failed to:
- Make a reasonable decision in your appeal. A “reasonable” decision is one that is based on evidence, thought out and supported by facts and logical inferences from the facts. To be reasonable, the decision must contain adequate reasons for the conclusions.
Appeal Grounds Details: Dear Academic Advisory Team,
I am Ningjing Gan, student ID 20200677, currently a senior in the Honors program. I am writing a petition for the requirement “Students in their 3rd and 4th year of their Honours degree can only take 2 courses (6.0 units) on a LOP per Academic Year (Fall and Winter terms) without first petitioning to the Associate Dean (Academic).” I have already been approved to take 6.0 units outside of Queen's at Soochow University in the Fall semester and I hope to get approval for taking additional 2 courses at Athabasca University during the Winter Semester.
I have completed all required and core courses, with only elective courses remaining. I hope these elective courses in the winter term can be completed in an online format at Athabasca University for the following reasons:
1. As a fourth-year student, I anticipate having numerous in-person interviews in Toronto/Vancouver during the winter term. Attending too many in-person classes could impact my career development. However, the range of online courses offered by Queen's University is limited and does not meet my current needs..
2. I have a remote internship in China during the winter term (proof of employment is attached in the email). I often need to work late into the night due to the time difference. Therefore, my schedule may not align well with in-person classes in Canada. Taking online course is a way to ensure the successful completion of courses with high quality.
Therefore, I am requesting your approval to take additional two online courses outside of our university and to transfer these credits to my degree program.
