To whom it may concern,
My name is Joelle Lintag (20166467), and I am a fifth year Computing student currently enrolled in CISC 365. I started my academic career as a Life Sciences Major before transferring into the School of Computing in my third year of my undergraduate studies. While studying Life Sciences, I struggled academically for several years, until I came to the realization that it was not the path I wanted to take. Luckily, after a hard decision of making my transfer, I found my stride in Computing and found myself feeling confident academically. However, with this transfer, I did have to push myself to my limits academically in this final year to be able to graduate in the spring.
Throughout my undergraduate career, I have taken on several extracurricular roles on campus to better value my time and community at Queen’s. In the past term, I was pushed into a management role with an AMS service that requires me to work a 30 hour work week, take on a senior advisor and director position with a club on campus, as well as deal with personal obstacles, including internship and job applications, family issues, and more. Needless to say, along with being a full time student solely enrolled in upper year core Computing courses, I was working to prioritize my academic career and I had been working tirelessly.
These issues were ongoing throughout the term, and prevented me from giving myself a moment to analyze my options and success in CISC 365. Despite this, I had still made several attempts to do better in this class: I have gone to class, asked questions, worked with my classmates, and tried to give myself more time to fully understand and give my all in assessments within my demanding schedule, but I feel that I am at my wits end at this time of the term. I have pushed myself to the limit to improve my grades in this class, and have only found myself overwhelmed with the structure of the course itself and the impact it has had on my mental health as a student. It has affected my work in my other classes as a result of making it a priority, and does not seem as though it will improve. As a result, I would like to formally request to drop this class so as to relieve the strain it's had on my ability as a student.
Thank you for your time and understanding.
Sincerely,
Joelle Lintag (she/her)
