Petition Letter: To whom it may concern,
My name is Bailey Hassard and I am petitioning to drop the course ENGL 112 “Listen to a Poem, Read a Song” (Fall 2023) due to personal health conflicting with my success in this course.
Since the beginning of the semester, I have become sick quite frequently which often has rendered me bedridden and not in a healthy enough position to attend classes in person. I am in communication with my doctor in Oakville regarding my health and have attached a letter from her below. Unfortunately my health has significantly impacted my attendance. During the times I have not been healthy enough to attend classes or expose myself to others in good conscience, I have made great efforts to continue my studies and complete work from home. I have found myself able to keep up with most of my courses by utilizing the online material posted to onQ, and have had the option to complete in person assessments such as labs for certain courses on alternative dates if need be. ENGL 112 however, is heavily geared around in class learning and minimal content or material can be found on onQ, making it very difficult to keep up with the class. I have also missed in person assessments due to being ill with flu-like symptoms without the option of an alternative date for completion. This is the only course where prioritizing my health has come at the expense of my grades, and my extenuating circumstances inhibited me from completing in person quizzes and assessments.
I believe that staying enrolled in ENGL112 will do more harm than good as my success in this course is not, and has not been for quite some time, something that is within my control - especially as the end of the semester approaches.
For these reasons, I wish to drop ENGL 112 from my schedule.
Kind Regards,
Bailey Hassard
