I am writing to request a late drop for the course ASTR 100 for the current academic term. I understand that this request is unconventional due to its timing, but I assure you it is grounded in a series of unforeseen and challenging circumstances.
During the past months, my family has faced significant financial difficulties stemming from the stringent COVID-19 procedures implemented in our country. Both of my parents work in professions vulnerable to economic fluctuations: my mother as a ghost writer and my father as a freelance business consultant. The pandemic has severely impacted their workflow, leading to delays in projects and, consequently, in their payments. This financial instability has necessitated that I take on multiple jobs to support our family and continue my education, which has greatly affected my academic performance.
In addition to these financial hardships, I have been grappling with my ADHD, a condition that has always posed challenges to my learning process. While I have been prescribed medication to manage this condition, I have yet to secure comprehensive academic accommodations. The combination of increased work hours and the absence of adequate support for my learning disability has significantly hampered my ability to keep up with my coursework and submit assignments on time.
Given these circumstances, I fear that continuing with ASTR 100 will not only be detrimental to my academic record but also to my mental and emotional well-being. An F grade would unjustly reflect on my academic potential and could have long-lasting implications on my educational journey. Therefore, I respectfully petition for a late drop from ASTR 100. I am currently working on getting proper accommodations so that I do not repeat the same challenges for the upcoming semester(s).
I am fully aware of the usual procedures and deadlines for course drops. However, I believe that my situation warrants special consideration given its exceptional nature. I am committed to my academic pursuits and have maintained a satisfactory academic record up until these recent challenges.
I am hopeful for your understanding and positive response to this petition. I am willing to provide any additional information or documentation needed to facilitate your decision.
