Petition Letter: To whom it may concern,
I am asking to drop ECON 212 for the fall term due to mental health reasons. Over this term, I have had to deal with several mental health challenges stemming mainly from my mom's back surgery. My mom had back surgery a month ago and as a family, we have been taking care of her. Being away from home at this time has led me to have depression as well as poor mental health. There are nights when I can not sleep because I am too in my head thinking about the well-being of my mom as well as the feelings of other family members. Not only is this affecting my sleeping habits, but it has also affected me while studying and while I am doing my part-time job. I have attempted to reach out to 2 therapists to get a mental health valuation but unfortunately, the earliest either of them could meet is in February. The added stress also does not mix well with my pre-existing anxiety when it comes to doing my best at school. Not only has this affected me academically but it has also affected me socially as I find it harder to talk to people because my mind is so focused on my family. My thoughts behind dropping ECON 212 took a lot of consideration but in the end, this is the most logical course for me to drop due to already completed it last year, as well as it allowing me to go home a week earlier and care for my mom and family due to my other exams ending on the 13th.
