Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: This semester was very challenging for me for a few reasons: firstly, I joined Pysc 100 about 3 weeks late, and was continuously behind on course readings and labs in addition to my other classes (it is required for con-ed).

Secondly, in addition to being behind on a very time-consuming course, I was working 2 jobs outside of school to be able to afford rent/ food / and school. I ended up having to quit 1 of my jobs in November because I had very little time to sleep, work, do homework, and attend all my classes, which resulted in some pretty poor grades. I am usually a good student, I like learning and have gotten all A's and B's throughout my first 2 years of university so far.

Also, near the end of the term, when I was finally starting to catch up, I had a medical episode (pulmonary embolism, blood clots in my lungs) and was out of school for an extended time. I did file and was approved for long-term academic consideration and even took one IN on another course because I was unable to hand in the final project on time.

I missed so much valuable class time and was already struggling in MUSC 227, that I know I wouldn't be able to pull myself out of it. Ear training and sight singing require a lot of focus and practice and I unfortunately have not been able to give it the full attention that it deserves or requires. Instead of wasting my time and energy to either receive an F or a very low grade at this point, it would be better for me to focus on other classes I know I can succeed in.
