Petition Letter

Petition Letter: To whom it may concern,

My name is Cameron Ingo, I am halfway through my fourth year of a physics degree at Acadia University. I am from Kingston initially and grew up here, and have returned to complete my degree at Queens. Due to extenuating circumstances relating to my own mental health, as well as the lack of available upper year physics courses, I felt that it was in my best interest to return to Kingston where I would be able to attend a larger school to complete my degree. Unfortunately a letter of permission admission in the faculty of Arts and Sciences is limiting to three courses and I would like to take at least 4. I have been in contact with the Queens physics department and have given them my transcript from Acadia, and was given permission to enroll in all 4 courses that I requested, after they waived the prerequisites for me. They were unable to register me in a 4th course due to the letter of permission admission, and I would like to appeal this to be allowed to enroll in a fourth course. I have no issue paying full time student fees, and I am trying to get the best out of my remaining undergraduate education here at Queens. I do not believe that there should be any academic barrier to this as the physics department at Queens has already given permission for me to be in these courses.

Thanks,
Cameron

Academic Plan

Academic Plan: I am nearing the end of my undergraduate degree and due to extenuating circumstances involving the COVID-19 pandemic, my own mental health, and attempting to compete as a varsity swimmer for the first 2.5 years of my degree, My GPA was quite low across my first 5 semesters. After 5 semesters I made the decision to quit swimming as I would like to attend graduate school and my GPA was far too low to do this. Following this decision I recently completed my 7th semester with a GPA of 3.9, an increase from 2.9 where it was a year prior. I have 24 credit hours remaining in my degree, and want to be able to prepare myself and give myself the best possible chances of getting into a graduate physics program, and I would like to be able to complete them by the end of the Fall 2024 semester and give myself time to work and gain more experience in a research position before going to graduate school. This is difficult with a restriction of 3 courses per semester, and as such I am requesting that I be given permission to attend Queens as a full time student for the remainder of my undergraduate degree. I wrote this appeal after I was informed by a friend of mine who is also a 4th year physics student at Queens, that a plasma physics course was being ran this semester for the first time which I am interested in taking (PHYS 493/ENPH 493). Because I have such a small number of remaining credit hours in my degree, I do not have any flexibility on when I can take these courses that I am interested in, and as such I am submitting this appeal.
