Dear Associate Dean,
I am appealing for your decision to waive a drop deadline for courses in which I was enrolled. The courses I am requesting to waive the drop deadline for are RELS 131 (S 2022), LLCU 111, (F 2022), LLCU 200 (F 2022), LLCU 203 (W 2023), and ANAT 100 (W 2023).
I am requesting to waive the drop deadline for these courses as I have experienced extenuating circumstances that have negatively impacted my academic success over this past year. As stated by the documentation below, you’ll become aware that I was struggling greatly with mental health issues and was in the process of getting diagnosed with proper medications to combat these issues. My diagnosis has unfortunately affected many aspects of my life, but mostly my academic success by making me incapable of focusing and being able to complete assignments due to severe depression, anxiety, and side effects of new medication. As you may have noticed, these issues did not impact certain courses, such as HLTH 200, this is because even amongst my hardships my academic progress here at Queen’s University is extremely significant to me and I was adamant with myself about being able to showcase the academic potential I do have in me as best as I could even while I was struggling.
I am happy to inform you that as of this summer (June 2023), I have had the time to regroup, seek frequent counseling, become fully accustomed to my medications, and am feeling much better and more motivated than ever to flourish academically and reach the full potential I know I have in me. I have an array of courses that are appealing to my personal interests and will be of greater success for me moving forward.
Thank you sincerely for your time and your consideration,
Sophie Robb
