Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: Dear Associate Dean,
I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing to you with a sincere and earnest request regarding my academic record at Queen's University. I am currently a student in the arts and sciences program, and I find myself compelled to bring forth an exceptional circumstance that significantly impacted my ability to complete certain courses during a specific period. Regrettably, my mother was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer, and this challenging situation had a profound impact on both my personal life and academic responsibilities. As a result of the emotional and logistical challenges associated with supporting my mother during this critical time, I had no choice but to make the difficult decision to drop certain courses during the year. I understand the importance of maintaining academic standards and the regulations governing course withdrawals. However, the circumstances surrounding my decision were beyond my control, and I believe they merit special consideration. In light of these extraordinary circumstances, I am respectfully petitioning for the removal of the dropped courses from my transcript. Doing so would, I believe, present a more accurate reflection of my academic abilities and potential, considering the challenges I faced during that specific period. I am more than willing to provide any necessary documentation, such as medical records or a letter from a healthcare professional, to substantiate the validity of my situation. I am also open to any additional procedures or meetings required to discuss this matter further. I greatly appreciate your understanding and consideration of my request. I am confident that, given the circumstances, the removal of these dropped courses from my transcript would provide a fair representation of my academic capabilities.
