Petition Letter

Petition Letter: To Whom It May Concern:

Recently I learned that I have been placed on academic probation due to my GPA of 1.58. I am writing to request CR status in SOCY 122 and FILM 110 based on medical extenuating circumstances that took place for me this year.

This past school year, I suffered a lot of anxiety, which made it extremely difficult for me to adjust to university and residence. My anxiety started earlier that summer and continued into the New Year.

During this 6 month period, especially early on in the school year, I visited Kingston General Hospital, The Frontenac Mental Health Centre and the Health Services at the La Salle Building seeking help. I returned home multiple times to visit my family doctor as well as a therapist. I also met with an Academic Advisor and decided to drop one course to lighten my load in an attempt to alleviate some of my anxiety.

During this time I felt very upset and anxious. It is safe to say school was not my main priority but I made the effort to talk to all my TA¿¿s as well as some of my professors to let them know how I was feeling and what I was going through. They were very helpful and understanding and for that I am very grateful. I also took the proper steps to help relieve my anxiety as much as possible by learning about mindfulness and organizational skills.

After having gone through one of the most difficult years in my life, I have learned a lot and I am confident that in the future I will be better able to prepare myself for exams, which will ultimately improve my grades. I also plan on taking a lighter course load which will make it easier to balance my health and my academics. Thank you for considering my appeal. I sincerely appreciate it.

Yours truly,

Peter Walker
