Dear Dr. Stephenson,
I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing to formally submit a petition for a late withdrawal from STAT 263 for the Fall 2023 semester, incurring no academic penalty.
I enrolled in STAT 263 with the expectation that I would be able to manage the workload and demands of the course. However, unforeseen personal circumstances have arisen, making it extremely challenging for me to dedicate the time and effort required for successful completion of the course. These circumstances include severe diagnosed depression, illness, and family issues.
I have already dropped my other 2 full-year courses before the January 19th deadline, but seeing as STAT 263 was a half-year course, my extenuating circumstances occurred after the deadline to drop this course, which is why I was not able to drop it before the deadline. I was granted consideration until January 26th, 2024. I am also uploading that letter for your reference.
I have carefully considered the potential consequences of dropping the course and understand the academic implications it may have on my progress. Nevertheless, I believe that, given the circumstances, dropping the course is the most responsible and necessary decision for my overall well-being and academic success.
I have attached supporting documentation from my therapist to substantiate my claim. I kindly request that you review my case sympathetically and grant my petition for a late withdrawal from STAT 263.
To work towards succeeding academically, I am seeing a counsellor for my mental health issues, and she is also working to help me make a more balanced academic routine. I am going to make a much stronger effort to balance my own life, making more time for friends and exercise, which is something I struggled with doing in the fall term.
I would be willing to discuss my situation further if needed. Please feel free to contact me via email at 21wcdc@queensu.ca
Thank you for your time and consideration. I appreciate your understanding and assistance in this matter.
Sincerely,
William Chong
