Petition Letter

Petition Letter: Dear Associate Dean,
I am petitioning/hoping to drop SOCY305 (Fall, 2023). Due to an amalgamation of unfortunate circumstances including a learning disability, mental health, and employment, I am requesting to please drop this course. I have been diagnosed with ADHD, which affects my ability to maintain focus in classes, as well as my ability to manage my time effectively, which is an ongoing issue that I am attempting to be cognizant of and shape my routines around. In addition, I've been diagnosed with mental health conditions, including anxiety, and depression, which also affect how I operate. Due to the neurodiverse functioning of my brain, my ability to balance, a full course load is difficult to achieve.
Throughout the years of my education, despite moving out and living fully on my own since the beginning of my second year of education, I have been unable to receive OSAP, even though I pay for my education out-of-pocket. This has forced me to work more than an ideal amount of time for a student, combined with neurodiverse hurdles including poor time management, making a full course load very difficult to successfully achieve.
However, I have now created a proposed plan to balance my necessary employment (to support my education) schedule, and a four-course load semester for a more successful outcome in the future. I plan to improve my academic performance by allocating more time to each course than I was able to while dispersing my time among five courses in the past. In addition to reducing my course load in the next semester, as well as future semesters, I will utilize university resources such as GLEAN to keep me organized and focused on my academic course loads. I am truly committed to my education at Queens University, as is proven through my tireless efforts to work to afford my schooling as well as never giving up through many obstacles.
Thank you for your time.
Kindly,
Sophie Binch
