Petition Letter: Dear Dean Dr. Jenn Stephenson,
I hope this letter finds you well. My name is Ryana Istrefi, and I am a returning student at Queens University. The last academic year I attended was in 2022, which marked my first year here. Unfortunately, I had some financial challenges, preventing me from paying the outstanding fee for my last semester. After considerable effort, I was able to clear the debt at the beginning of this winter semester (2024).
Following the payment processing, I encountered difficulties enrolling in classes on Solus. I contacted the IT department to resolve the issue, and it was discovered that there were privacy settings on my netID causing the problem. I was guided by IT to remove these settings, but I still had issues accessing Solus. Looking for some more assistance, I consulted with my academic advisor, who informed me of an unknown hold on my account that needed resolution.
While awaiting the removal of this hold, my advisor suggested a few steps to ensure enrollment in some classes before February 2nd. In my first year, I pursued psychology with the intention of majoring in it. However, upon reflection, after taking POlS 110 and enjoying it much more than my psychology class, I realized that political science seems to be a better fit for me and is a degree I would like to pursue.
Given the delay in registering for courses as explained above, this has led to barriers in course availability. I understand the potential constraints of class availability and acknowledge that many political science classes are now full. As such, I am taking a reduced course load this semester, and I have identified specific classes of interest that align with my academic goals. These classes include CLST 130 (Great Discoveries in Archaeology), GNDS 280 (Topics in gender studies), LLCU 110 (Diversity and Identity), and CLST 203 (Myth and Religion). At the next available opportunity, I am looking to resume full-time enrollment. I plan to take political science summer courses to progress in my degree.

Academic Plan
Academic Plan: I completed my first year taking a full course load and completed each course well above the class average. Being a full-time student is my primary focus, and I am eager to re-establish a routine centered around classes and coursework. I have taken steps, such as reaching out to professors, already getting put into the onQ in CLST 203 (Myth and Religion), and preparing my study materials, which include my whiteboard in my room with the due dates in CLST 203. Also, I have communicated with friends in this class and have connections in other courses I intend to take.
With me being not employed currently, I have plenty of time to dedicate to my studies. I have already organized my schedule, with ongoing support from my speech therapist, occupational therapist, social worker, and case manager, who play important roles in helping me manage my academic responsibilities.
I appreciate your attention to this matter and allowing me to enrol in the selected classes for the current semester. Your support in making my return to the academic community at Queens University is greatly appreciated.
