Petition Letter
Petition Letter: I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing to formally petition for permission to add the HLTH 101 course to my current semester's schedule. My name is Malaika Zahid, and my student ID is 2168839.
Over the past year, I have faced significant personal familial challenges that had a profound impact on my academic performance. These challenges hindered my ability to focus, concentrate, and maintain my emotional and mental well-being. As a result, my academic journey faced disruptions, and I encountered difficulties in successfully completing the DEVS 100 course.
I have taken proactive steps to address this situation by submitting a petition to drop the DEVS 100 course, which I plan to retake at Toronto Metropolitan University since it is no longer offered at Queens University. To ensure a smooth transition back into my academic path at Queens, adding HLTH 101 to my current semester's courseload would be immensely beneficial.
The content of HLTH 101 closely aligns with the material covered in DEVS 100, as both courses delve into the study of global development by examining social, political and historical factors that can explain how inequalities emerge. HLTH 101 focuses on health inequality which is one of the major factors in global development.
Adding HLTH 101 will not only help me reacquaint myself with the program path but also contribute to my overall academic progression.
I am now in good health and fully committed to resuming my studies with renewed focus and dedication. I kindly request your understanding and support in allowing me to add HLTH 101 to my current semester, even though the deadline has passed.
I appreciate your time and consideration of my petition. Thank you for your understanding.
Sincerely,
Malaika Zahi

Academic Plan
Academic Plan: My objective is to progress in my academic career and achieve graduation with honours in Global Development. Currently, I am an interest student, and I plan on taking HLTH 101 for the current semester. To ensure that I successfully complete this course, I plan to attend all my classes, actively participate in discussions, and seek additional support if needed. By doing so, I am less likely to fall behind on coursework and will be more prepared for exams and written assignments.
In the summer (May-June) I plan to take COGS 101 at Queens as an elective requirement to diversify my academic experience whilst staying on track with my program requirements. I will also submit a letter of permission to take a course equivalent to DEVS 100 at Toronto Metropolitan University over the summer (July - August).
This past year has been very challenging so I am aware that getting into the balance of things takes diligence and patience. I plan on meeting with an academic advisor regularly to help me stay on track and sustain my progress.
By implementing these strategies and seeking support, I am confident in my ability to overcome obstacles and achieve my academic goals.
