Petition Letter

Petition Letter: First Level: Petition to the Associate Dean (Academic)
Dear Sir/Madam:
I hope you are doing well.

I joined Queens Health Science in Sept 2022 after having an ambition to pursue a career in the Health Science field whereby I worked very hard during my high school years. Unfortunately, in April 2022 (during my final exams in High School) my mother decided to leave home and left behind my brother and myself with my father. This sudden family episode was very difficult for me, however, I continued to go to school and pursue my dreams.

When I started my first year at Queens, I gave the best of my abilities despite the circumstances surrounding my family. I also managed to remain focussed and received good grades accordingly.

When I completed the first year and went home for the holidays, my family situation worsened as my relation with my mother deteriorated (as my mother engaged a lawyer on 7th March 2023) and it affected me personally whereby my ability to focus became difficult. The family matter is now in the Court.

When I started my second year, my family situation started to affect my ability to concentrate on the studies and I started to second guess myself whereby I thought of changing my career path completely. In addition my health was also being affected as my eating habits changed and I lost considerable amount of weight. I did not discuss my school performance and my health situation with my father until I came back home for the holidays, as I did not want my father to stress further given our already ongoing family matter. However, as per the correspondences attached below, I did try to get some help within the University Resources.

Consequently, as per my transcript results, I did not do very well in the Fall 2023 semester and specifically, in one of the courses (CHEM 281), my grade dropped to an F.

During the December 2023 holidays when I came back home, I explained everything to my father and I also visited my family doctor on 21st Dec 2023. Consequently, after having many discussions with my father and receiving guidance on my life moving forward, I have reached the conclusion that I am now determined and motivated to continue my studies in the Health Science program and remain focused on the goal and dreams that I initially had.

Given the above, in the 2024 Winter Session, I registered to retake ANAT 100 course so that I could improve my GPA and more importantly, I am in a position to write the MCAT and give myself a chance to pursue my dream. My health condition has also improved considerably as I am now eating well and keeping myself healthy.

In this regard, I am sincerely requesting a consideration from the faculty to have a Credit standing and/or Aegrotat standing for the following course(s) as applicable:

1) CHEM 281
2) PHGY 215

Thank you for your time and understanding and I look forward to your positive decision on the matter.
Regards,
Diya Kataria (she/her)
