Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: I am petitioning to have my grade for the final essay of PHIL 373 revisited. My essay was submitted on December 20, 2023, although the final submission date was December 16, 2023. Leading up to and at the time of the assigned submission date I was experiencing family issues as my grandmother had just been hospitalized for some very serious heart attacks. It did not seem like she would live, which I found distressing in anticipation of my family visiting her. Under these circumstances I worked very hard to complete my final essay--and I was ultimately proud of what I submitted--but I was unfortunately not able to submit it before the due date. I am disappointed that I did not reach out to my professor to explain my situation, and that I naively assumed that my QSAS 7-day-extension would apply onto the final due date. When I realized that my essay had not been graded, and that I therefore failed the course, I reached out to the professor and asked for the opportunity to explain my situation. He did not respond. I was directed to this petition by my QSAS advisor, and I hope that it will be an effective avenue for re-evaluating my work.
