Petition Letter: Dear Dr. Jenn Stephenson
The Request: I am appealing to have the hold lifted off my account so I may add a course to my schedule PSYC 271.
I have only paid my first semester's tuition fee and will pay the second semester's tuition fee in full by the end of this week. I am currently living in residence and due to not getting any work this winter break. I was also unable to pay the residence fee as well. I have filed an OSAP application however that takes 4-6 weeks and I will pay that in full within that time frame. I tried to add courses prior to the due date on the 13th but was unaware of the hold and thought the system was down. The last three weeks have really proven to be a challenging time for my mental health due to the sudden passing of my maternal grandmother on the 15th, and only by dad being able to fly out and visit out of my entire family. I had a meeting with the ASC (academic advising) and was told that I should’ve been able to add classes till the last day which was on January 19th. However due to the hold I was not able to. I’ve reached out to the professor as well for PSYC 271 and was told that the appeals for late course additions need to be made with the Registrar's Office and/or the Faculty of Arts and Science Office. This appeal is important to me because currently in my OSAP application I’ve listed a three course load (60%) which would grant me more financial funding, easing the burden.Should this appeal be granted, I will personally make all the extra time required to catch up on all missed curriculum work. I also have a friend who has taken this course last semester and is giving me access to all his notes. I understand that reading week is also coming up which would also give me more time to study and manage the coursework. If you could kindly help me out it would be much appreciated.
Kind Regards Shahroz.
